Power Loss Evaluation of Hvdc and Dc Hts Transmission Solutions for round 3 Offshore Wind Farms in the United Kingdom

چکیده

Wind farm capacities and transmission distances will be increased significantly in the UK, Round 3 offshore wind farms. This will be a serious challenge when HVDC transmission technologies are considered. The purpose of high temperature superconductor (HTS) cables as the transmission conductor in HVDC transmission system is mainly to reduce the joule losses (IR) arising from the power transmission process. This paper provides a comparison between HVDC utilising conventional conductors and DC HTS technologies which highlights the challenges and requirements associated with each of these technologies in the context of the UK Round 3 offshore wind farms paying particular attention to the power losses and economic aspects.
